Guarding Your Dreams: A Journey of Faith and Perseverance

Dreams, big and small, shape the fabric of our lives, propelling us forward with purpose and passion. However, the journey to realizing these dreams is often filled with challenges, and forces—both external and internal—seek to steal, kill, or destroy them. Reflecting on the biblical account of Joseph in Genesis 37:18-20, They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them, they conspired against him to kill him. 19 They said to one another, "Here comes this dreamer. 20 Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits. Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him, and we will see what will become of his dreams." The part that stood out to me: will kill the dreamer, and we will see what will become of his dreams. I believe 2 primary sources in our lives try to kill our dreams. The first is usually easy to identify external influences, but the second is often more complex, being ourselves.

Choosing our circle wisely is crucial, as the wrong company, even within our families, can pose a significant threat. While we can choose our friends, family is a given, making it essential to navigate these relationships carefully.

However, the doubts that arise from within ourselves can be equally destructive. Feeling unqualified, unprepared, or unworthy is a common hurdle. Yet, as affirmed by the biblical wisdom in Proverbs 3:5-6, placing trust in the Lord and acknowledging His guidance can overcome these internal barriers. The lesson is clear—God doesn't call the qualified; He qualifies the called. Those deemed unfit by societal standards, such as fishermen, tax collectors, or a shepherd like David, were chosen vessels for divine purposes.

Understanding the alignment of our dreams with God's will is vital. It's not merely about asking for what we desire but ensuring our aspirations align with God's commandments and please Him. The interplay of prayer and obedience is beautifully expressed in 1 John 3:22, emphasizing the importance of keeping God's commandments.

However, the fulfillment of our dreams may not always align with our timelines. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us of God's perfect timing—a season for every activity under the heavens. Patience becomes a virtue as we wait for God's appointed moment.

In conclusion, the journey toward our dreams involves identifying and protecting them from external threats and overcoming internal doubts. Feeling unqualified or unworthy is a shared human experience, and the stories of those like Moses, David, and Mary reassure us that God can use anyone for His purpose. By trusting in the Lord, aligning our desires with His will, and patiently awaiting His timing, we can navigate the challenges posed by external and internal forces, ensuring that our dreams flourish and bring glory to God.
